Basically, slabs of light laid one upon the other, but with enough information to reassure us that we are looking at what is possible in the observed world. I think it all revolves around wanting to photograph the world as we see it rather than simply recording it as others see it. Its back to the idea that paintings are made and photographs are taken. There are more ways of taking photographs.
